Soy/Soy Formulas Linked To Allergies, Brain Damage, Infertility, Uterine Fibroids,
& MUCH MORE! - Many of you have asked about using Soy or feeding your baby a soy formula. In reality, unfermented
soy is falsely regarded as a health food in the United States based on a brilliant marketing strategy, according to
Mercola.com. Diets low in
saturated fat and cholesterol that include 25 grams of soy protein a day may reduce the risk of heart disease or using a soy
formula for your baby is good. The truth is that unfermented soy found in soymilk, soy formulas, soy burgers, soy ice cream
and even tofu is not a health food. Dr. Kaayla Daniel, author of
The Whole Soy Story, points out thousands
of studies link soy to malnutrition, digestive distress, immune-system breakdown, thyroid dysfunction, cognitive decline,
reproductive disorders, and infertility/uterine fibroids (see study in
Environmental
Health Perspectives, cancer and heart disease. ALERT - your baby is a risk!
Infants fed soy formula may get 13,000 to 22,000 times the estrogen than those breast fed. This is like taking 3-5
birth control pills per day! Besides this obvious risk there are food allergies/digestive distress, behavioral problems
(phytates in soy block absorption of minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc essential to brain/emotional development),
asthma, thyroid disorders, early puberty and fertility problems, and breast/prostate/testicular cancer
possibilities. In a soy
formula relative to baby's weight, the manganese levels are up to 200 times that in breast mild and are highly toxic which can
adversely affect the child's intelligence Plus this could lead to "manganese madness" during adulthood or even
autism.
Unfortunately 91 percent of soy grown in the US is genetically modified (GM) and is linked to an increase in
allergies. The only published human feeding study on GM foods ever conducted verified that the gene inserted into GM soy
transfers into the DNA of our gut bacteria and continues to function. This means that years after you stop eating GM soy, you
may still have a potentially allergenic protein continuously being produced in your intestines. Even more frightening is the
potential for GM soy to cause infertility in future generations, which has been evidenced through Russian research.
Among the bad things that soy contains are:
- Anti-nutritional factors like saponins, soyatoxin, phytates, protease inhibitors, oxalates, goitrogens and estrogens. Some of these factors interfere with the enzymes needed to digest protein. While a small amount of anti-nutrients would not likely cause a problem, the amount of soy that many Americans are now eating is extremely high.
- Hemagglutinin, a clot-promoting substance that causes your red blood cells to clump together. These clumped cells are unable to properly absorb and distribute oxygen to your tissues. Plus it contains Goitrogens that block the synthesis of thyroid hormones and interfere with iodine metabolism, thereby interfering with your thyroid function.
- Phytates (phytic acid) which bind to metal ions, preventing the absorption of certain minerals, including calcium, magnesium, iron, and zinc -- all of which are co-factors for optimal biochemistry in your body. This is particularly problematic for vegetarians, because eating meat reduces the mineral-blocking effects of these phytates (so it is helpful - if you do eat soy - to also eat meat).
- Isoflavones which is a plant compound resembling human estrogen. These compounds mimic and sometimes block the hormone estrogen, and have been found to have adverse effects on various human tissues. Soy phytoestrogens are known to disrupt endocrine function, may cause infertility, and may promote breast cancer in women. Nearly 20 percent of US infants are now fed soy formula, but the estrogens in soy can irreversibly harm your baby's sexual development and reproductive health. Infants fed soy formula take in an estimated five birth control pills worth of estrogen every day.
- Toxic levels of aluminum and manganese due to soybeans being acid washed in aluminum tanks. In a soy formula relative to baby's weight, the manganese levels are up to 200 times that in breast mild and are highly toxic which can adversely affect the child's intelligence Plus this could lead to "manganese madness" during adulthood or even autism.
A better alternative is to choose fermentated soy (Tempeh, Miso, Natto, & Soy sauce) because after fermentation the phytate (which blocks your body's uptake of essential minerals) and anti-nutrient levels of soybeans are reduced, and their beneficial properties become available to your digestive system. Sorry, Tofu is not recommended since it is an unfermented soy product.
Fermented soy is very popular in many Asian cultures for centuries and aids in preventing and reducing a variety of diseases including certain forms of heart disease and cancers. It is the best food source of Vitamin K2, essential to preventing osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, and diseases of the brain such as dementia, and protecting you from various cancers including prostate, lung, liver cancer and leukemia.
Drugs Linked To Violence & Internal Harm - Many popular drugs have been shown to increase violence and cause more internal harm than good! For example, Time Magazine January 7, 2011 published a study from the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, based on data from the FDA's Adverse Event Reporting System, identifying 31 drugs linked to an increased risk for violent, even homicidal, behavior. The top ten offenders are:
- Varenicline (Chantix): The number one violence-inducing drug on the list, this anti-smoking medication is 18 times more likely to be linked with violence when compared to other drugs;
- Fluoxetine (Prozac): This drug was the first well-known SSRI antidepressant;
- Paroxetine (Paxil): Another SSRI antidepressant, Paxil is also linked with severe withdrawal symptoms and a risk of birth defects;
- Amphetamines: (Various): Used to treat ADHD;
- Mefoquine (Lariam): A treatment for malaria which is often linked with reports of strange behavior;
- Atomoxetine (Strattera): An ADHD drug that affects the neurotransmitter noradrenalin;
- Triazolam (Halcion): This potentially addictive drug is used to treat insomnia;
- Fluvoxamine (Luvox): Another SSRI antidepressant;
- Venlafaxine (Effexor): An antidepressant also used to treat anxiety disorders; and
- Desvenlafaxine (Pristiq): An antidepressant which affects both serotonin and noradrenalin
Additionally, many drugs cause more harm than good. The real list is too long to show so do your research to prevent more serious consequences of taking medications. Here is a sampling of drugs that, like Vioxx in recent news, can cause harm:
- Avandia, the diabetes drug for which its maker, GlaxoSmithKline, has agreed to pay $250 million to settle 5,500 claims, can cause heart attacks and kill users. GSK said in January it planned to set aside $6.4 billion for costs relating to litigation on this drug. Note that Avandia was recently pulled of the market in Europe due to its health risks. A 2007 study linked it to a 43 percent increased risk of heart attack and a 64 percent higher risk of cardiovascular death than patients treated with other methods. More than 80,000 diabetics have suffered lethal heart attacks from this dangerous drug.
- 11 cholesterol drugs, known as Statins, are linked with serious side effects. Statins are HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, acting by blocking the enzyme in your liver that is responsible for making cholesterol (HMG-CoA reductase). The fact that statin drugs cause side effects is well established — there are now 900 studies proving their adverse effects, which run the gamut from muscle problems to increased cancer risk
- The birth control pills Yaz and Yasmin were touted to be safer than any other pill on the market when they first came out. But it wasn’t long before a flurry of lawsuits began claiming that they cause numerous health problems including deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in the deep veins), strokes, heart attacks and gallbladder disease.
- Levaquin, a powerful antibiotic, has been linked to tendon ruptures of the Achilles, shoulders, biceps, hands and thumb, and is the target of multiple lawsuits.
- Accutane, a drug that was used to treat acne for many years, is also the center of multiple lawsuits. It was pulled off the market in 2009 after users reported side effects that included severe gastrointestinal problems including Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Elevated risk of birth defects in the children of pregnant women also were reported.
Other dangerous drugs that have either been pulled off the market or are the center of lawsuits (even as they are still sold) include the smoking cessation drug Chantix; the pain killer Darvocet; the "bone-strengthening" drug Fosamax; which is made up of bisphosphonate compounds that have been found to actually contribute to bone death; the statin drug Crestor; the serotonin re-uptake inhibitor (SSRI) drug Paxil, which has been linked to suicides and suicidal thoughts; and many, many others.
Many people frequently take Tylenol (acetaminophen) for headaches or backaches. Now they should be aware that new research published in Journal of Clinical Oncology, May 9, 2011 shows that high use of acetaminophen is associated with an almost 2x increase risk of incident helmatologic malignancies (Cancer). Here is another example of fooling with mother nature and not finding the cause of the pain, but instead covering it up and leading to more serious problems.
Along these lines Vaccines should be mentioned because they are detrimental to one's immune system. Vaccines are another way of drug companies making big money by selling something that could make you sick – or sicker. Is it worth the risk? Plus notice the stock piling of flu vaccines that occurred in 2008-2009 and was not needed but no refund was offered by flu vaccine companies. In fact officials noticed that the vaccine did nothing to prevent the flu in children, but did increase their risk of getting the H1N1 virus, a subtype of Influenza A Virus and the most common flu in 2009!
With all the news about drug effects there is a light of hope from the government of all people. Just released is a 132-page report, "Total Force Fitness for the 21st Century: A New Paradigm," our military is advocating a holistic mind, body and spirit approach to getting and staying fit. Amazing!. This is a new paradigm in health that not only includes a whole-life, holistic approach, but true preventive health care that goes beyond to emphasize maintaining health before illness occurs. It stresses maintaining a healthy weight, with positive lifestyle programs that include proper nutrition and physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being. So instead of having to treat disease, military personnel can learn ways to just stay healthy, the publication says. Imagine what would happen if everyone, and not just the military, focused on prevention rather than treatment!
